Solar lentigos (or skin spots) are most common in the photo-exposed areas (face and hands) and appear as flat, evenly-edged areas of light to dark brown skin. They are due to an accumulation of melanocytes.

In the past they were treated with chemical peelings, which produced temporary results as they did not reach the deeper layers of the dermis. The Pico laser cutera, on the other hand, is able to eliminate the spots permanently in just a few sessions, without the side effects of peeling.
